MARIUPOL

100X150cm/39X59in

oil on canvas, 2024,

3.900,00€

Mariupol was a thriving Ukrainian port city of about 420,000 people just a few years ago. War reduced it to ruins—proof of how quickly what generations build can be destroyed.

This painting is a symbolic reminder against war and violence, and of the fragility of the things we rely on most: home, safety, and ordinary life. Yet it also points to something equally real—the human ability to rebuild a future even from rubble.

For anyone who has lived through loss or upheaval, it can resonate as both a memory and a message: don’t give in, stand up again, move forward. It can suit professional spaces as well as a home—where its presence is meant to spark reflection, not despair.

Each of us sometimes dreams of traveling into the unknown—awake or asleep. We ride on the wings of imagination, fly into the distance, sail the open sea, discover unfamiliar places and faces, and invent stories. For a moment, we step outside everyday reality—and it feels good.

That’s what this painting is about: the need to loosen our ties to routine and expectations, and to let ourselves drift into the unknown.

Nails are made to join separate pieces—so they hold fast and become one.
In this painting, they stand for the way life keeps offering new points of connection. Even later in life—especially in its “autumn”—there are still chances to add fresh experiences, to meet new people, and to build something meaningful from what we already have.
